Doing the right thing
So today is one of those days I just really want to be a whiny ass and wish I had someone to lean on. I’m remodeling a house I lived in for a long time and trying to sell it. This place is fighting me every step of the way. It seems like every week I find something else that one of the previous owners has done to hide a problem. So instead of fixing the problem properly, they took the easy way out, they faked it and left it for someone else. Doing the right thing is the hardest and easiest thing you’ll ever do, and it never goes out of style.
After all the things I’ve found, today’s is probably the worst. The place had termites years ago before I owned the place. I’m painting the garage today and go to pull off a bad board, only to find that one of the previous owners put the board there to hide how bad the damage was. The support beam should been replaced years ago. Costly yes, but still the right thing to do.
So now I’m going to have get it properly supported and disclose it to the next owners. Do I have to do that? No, I don’t have to buy it doesn’t make it any less of the right thing to do. It’ll cost me money but what’s money as compared to being able to sleep at night knowing that if I don’t let them know what’s going one, then someone could get hurt.
